Canadian Penny Oleksiak's Olympic success puts dent in her phone bill

Canada's athletes certainly had much to worry about ahead of the 2016 Olympics, but the security risks, health concerns and polluted waters didn't seem to bother any of them as they arrived in Rio. Just ask Dr. Robert McCormack, medical director for the Canadian Olympic Committee.

"The most pressing question from the athletes is 'what’s the Wi-Fi code?'" McCormack said at the COC’s opening press conference.

First things first, as they say. But in fairnesss, access to Wi-Fi is pretty important for many travelers and young Olympic athletes are no different. In fact, one particular Olympian could have spared himself a $5,000 phone bill if he had asked this same question before diving into a Pokemon Go binge.

As it turns out, Canada's newest swimming sensation, Penny Oleksiak, might find herself in the same boat if she's not careful.

"I've run out of data," Oleksiak shared with Reuters just hours after winning her second medal, a silver in the 100-metre butterfly to accompany her bronze in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

"I am always on Instagram and Facebook and Twitter and everything and seeing all the notifications. I can't really go through all of them. It's kind of crazy, I guess, just because I go on Twitter and it's like you have 150 notifications but I want to look at them all and like all of them but I can't."

While Oleksiak searches for that Wi-Fi password, the two-time Rio medal winner is also preparing for at least one more event, the women's 100-metre freestyle.
