Ashton Eaton responds to criticism for wearing Canada hat
It's no secret who is Canadian heptathlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton's No. 1 fan: her husband, Ashton Eaton.
Eaton was at Olympic Stadium on Friday as the heptathlon got underway cheering on his wife while wearing a red Canada hat, even though he competes for the United States in the decathlon and is the gold medal favourite at Rio 2016.
However, his choice of apparel led some on social media to question his patriotism, which caused Eaton to respond in kind:
Have I not represented USA well? Yet u demand more. Ur respect is hard earned. I support the country that produced my wife;who ru2 shame me?

Are your grandparents from another country? Will your grandchildren be? What then? Hopefully you'll adopt a more reasonable view.

The Olympic super couple, one of many at the Rio Games, met while attending the University of Oregon and are not shy in their support for each other. Don't be surprised to see Brianne return the favour next week during the decathlon events.
.@AshtonJEaton we appreciate the support for your wife, & we're cool with Bri supporting 🇺🇸 when you compete 👍 pic.twitter.com/9OkJ2mgB0K

The Eatons' accomplishments and relationship is one of the great stories from these Games. Love, not hate, people.
