Video: Canadian quarterback-turned-receiver Brad Sinopoli makes one-handed grab

The Calgary Stampeders' 22-14 win over the Montreal Alouettes Friday night didn't see great performances from some, including the Montreal offensive line, but it did see amazing catches from several receivers. The Alouettes' Brandon London caught an over-the-shoulder touchdown bomb from Anthony Calvillo early on in the game, while the Stampeders' Nik Lewis did spectacularly well to break back to a fluttering tipped pass, collect it and fall backwards into the end zone for a touchdown. The best catch of them all may have come from a player who wasn't even a receiver as recently as last year, though. That would be Brad Sinopoli, yet another player in the string of Canadian quarterbacks unable to crack that position at the CFL level thanks to the import rules' quirks, but one who's turned himself into an excellent receiver this year. That's a great one-handed grab by Sinopoli, and one that illustrates how he's improving as a receiver. Many weren't sure he'd even make the team out of camp, but he's stuck around, and Calgary's spate of receiver injuries gave him a chance to shine. He did just that Friday, hauling in five catches for 81 yards, the second-highest total on the team. It's still a shame that Sinopoli one of the most dominant Canadian university players during his CIS days as a quarterback with the Ottawa Gee-Gees, never really got much of a chance under centre as a pro, but the switch to receiver (anticipated during last year's Grey Cup) seems to be working well for him thus far, and it's giving CIS and CFL fans a chance to watch a terrific Canadian athlete excel. It may not be what boosters of the Canadian quarterback cause had hoped for, but it's still pretty special to watch.
