Three Stars: Khalil Bass, Adarius Bowman and Chris Milo lead Week Twelve
It's time for another edition of the Three Stars, our regular look at each week's top performers on offence, defence and special teams. Here are the Three Star selections from Week Twelve's Labour Day Weekend clashes.
First star/defensive player of the week: Khalil Bass, linebacker, Winnipeg Blue Bombers: The Bombers got revenge for last week's loss to Saskatchewan with a 22-7 win over the Roughriders Saturday, and Bass was a big part of that. He had three tackles and a sack, but most critically, he broke through on Saskatchewan quarterback Brett Smith with just over eight minutes left, knocked his pass up in the air, picked it off and took it back 59 yards for a crucial touchdown. Bass, a Portland State product, is in his first season in the CFL, and he's having a great season, recording 55 tackles, four sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries to date. He'll be a big piece for the Bombers going forward.
Second star/offensive player of the week: Adarius Bowman, slotback, Edmonton Eskimos: Edmonton beat Calgary for the first time in 13 games Saturday, and Bowman was a huge part of their 27-16 win. The eight-year CFL veteran out of Oklahoma State had six catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns against the Stampeders, including a 50-yard grab. On the year, he has 52 catches for 716 yards (second in the CFL) and five touchdowns. He's a critical figure in the Eskimos' offence.
Third star/special teams player of the week: Chris Milo, kicker, Ottawa Redblacks: Milo was money for Ottawa Sunday in B.C., making all five of his field goal attempts and converting both of his extra points in the Redblacks' 31-18 win over the Lions. The Laval product is in his fifth year in the CFL, but just his first season with Ottawa; he joined the Redblacks in August after being cut by Saskatchewan. So far, that's worked out; he's made eight of his nine field-goal attempts with Ottawa so far.
Bonus star/Canadian player of the week: Brad Sinopoli, slotback, Ottawa Redblacks: Sinopoli was also a big part of Ottawa's win Sunday, catching six passes for a game-high 102 yards. The former star CIS quarterback has turned into an excellent CFL receiver, and he's done so in the same town where he once shone for the Ottawa Gee-Gees. On the year, he has 50 catches for 625 yards and a touchdown. He's a crucial component in the Redblacks' passing attack, and that aerial attack has been key to their turnaround from a 2-16 campaign last year to a 6-4 record so far.
