Third Roughrider charged with aggravated assault, security camera footage emerges

The Saskatchewan Roughriders' off-field issues don't appear to be going away any time soon. A day after defensive back Dwight Anderson and wide receiver Taj Smith appeared in court on aggravated assault charges relating to an Aug. 18 fight outside a nightclub, a third player appeared in court and was also charged with aggravated assault in that incident. That would be wide receiver Eron Riley, who was released on similar conditions to Anderson and Smith (including keeping the peace and staying away from alcohol). Furthermore, Regina's CJME 980 radio station posted two videos of security camera footage from the nearby Bushwakker Brewpub that appear to show some of the incident in question. Here they are:

At first glance, you can't make out too much in those, but there is some pushing and shoving in the first one and what's potentially a head stomp in the second one (near the one-minute mark). You can bet people will be pouring over them intensely, though. Regardless of what happens from here on out, it looks like this will be a story the Roughriders will be dealing with for months: Anderson and Smith are due back in court October 8, and Riley will presumably have another court date around then as well. It's worth keeping in mind what former Rider Tamon George said yesterday about people often trying to fight players, so these guys shouldn't be convicted before the courts rule on them, but it can't be a fun situation for Riders' general manager Brendan Taman to deal with. Here's what he told CJME:

He said the Riders haven't determined what happens next for Smith and Anderson but they have not been suspended.

"We're going through the process of trying to gather what went on. We have a lot of options to do but right now we've just got to get to the facts and we'll see where it goes."

Taman admitted there was speculation and rumour flying around but he insisted the team wasn't aware of exactly what happened.

No one seems to be sure of exactly what happened at this point, but it looks like a mess the Riders will have to deal with for some time.
