Ranking the top 10 CFL quarterbacks of all time
Anthony Calvillo's retirement Tuesday sparked plenty of discussions of his place in CFL history, and that's not an easy question to answer. While his stats are up there with any of the CFL's best, most of the CFL's greatest quarterbacks have been so different and played in such different eras that comparing them is exceptionally difficult. How do you compare Warren Moon's six seasons in the late 1970s and early 1980s to Ron Lancaster's 18 in the 1960s and 1970s to Damon Allen's 23 from 1985-2007, and how does Allen's rushing ability stack up against Doug Flutie's incredible yardage totals or Ricky Ray's phenomenal completion percentage? There's plenty of room for debate about the greatest Canadian football quarterbacks ever, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to see how different players stack up. Here's my attempt to rank the top 10 CFL quarterbacks of all time, considering era, duration, peak and a wide range of statistics:
