Philippe Gagnon does 40 bench press reps at CFL Combine, tied for third all-time
The national CFL combine's underway in Toronto this weekend, and Laval offensive lineman Philippe Gagnon stole the show early. The bench press drill is a vital one for linemen, and Gagnon blew away the field Saturday morning, posting 40 reps of 225 pounds. Here's video of his performance:
Fellow Laval offensive lineman Jason Lauzon-Seguin, Concordia offensive lineman Roman Grozman, McGill running back Devon Stewart, and UBC defensive lineman Boyd Richardson all tied for second place with 27 reps, 13 behind Gagnon. Full results can be seen here.
Gagnon's performance also tied Bishop's Elie Ngoyi (2013) and Laurier's Mike Montoya (2010) for the third-best bench performance of all time at the CFL combine. He was already highly-touted, and was ranked 13th in the December prospect rankings, but this kind of a showing should further boost his draft stock.
