Kent Ridley’s latest draft guide illustrates some of the best prospects out there

Kent Ridley of Ridley Scouting has established himself as one of the top authorities on the CFL draft and Canadian prospects in general, and the draft guide he's been putting out for the past five years is always an informative read. The latest edition, available electronically through Lulu.com, is full of useful thoughts on the 2013 expansion draft, a breakdown of each CFL club's offseason, interviews with various CFL players and prospects and a boatload of statistics. It's the prospect breakdowns for the 2014 draft that really stands out, though, and Ridley does a terrific job of discussing how players at each position stack up based on both their past performances and their combine showings, providing information on what roles they might be suited for at the next level and including context on how many players have been drafted at each position over the last several years. Here's an example from his receivers section, showing how the position's worked historically and evaluating top prospects Devon Bailey and Kris Bastien:

And another one, looking at the top linebackers:

The rest of the guide is full of similarly useful information, including thoughts on the new coaching staffs and offseason entries/departures in several CFL cities and how that's likely to affect those teams' drafting strategies. It's a great resource, and one that should be of plenty of use to CFL fans evaluating their team's draft. Ridley's top players at each position and a breakdown of the percentages of players taken from each slot are also available for free here. His continual work covering the draft is always appreciated, and his latest guide is a worthwhile read for anyone interested in the subject.
