Five of the craziest plays from Thursday's Bombers-Ticats game

Thursday night's first CFL game between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers saw plenty of remarkable plays, starting with Brandon Banks' 120-yard return touchdown off a missed field goal. However, that was just the start. Here are five of the other zany things that happened in Winnipeg's 28-24 win over Hamilton Thursday night:

5. The three-man interception: Late in the game, Hamilton looked to have a crucial touchdown with Tiquan Underwood wide open in the end zone, but he dropped the pass. On the next play, Masoli's pass got deflected by first one Bomber, then another, and then it finally fell into the hands of Winnipeg linebacker Maurice Leggett for his second pick of the night.

4. The early butterball: With the score tied at 7 late in the first half, Tiger-Cats' quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was under pressure and took off running. He then got the ball stripped, but it bounced off two different Winnipeg players before Bombers' defensive tackle Euclid Cummings was able to recover.

3. Chad Owens' offside touchdown: The Tiger-Cats pulled within one point later in the third quarter thanks to a 34-yard strike to Chad Owens that made the score 25-24. However, Owens and several other Hamilton receivers appeared to be offside at the snap, and when a flag flew, it looked like this one was coming back. The flag was a defensive offside against Winnipeg's Cummings, though, and it was declined, letting the touchdown stand. Many disagreed. Check out this screenshot from TSN's Derek Taylor on what things looked like at the snap:

2. Jeremiah Masoli's game-sealing fumble The Ticats almost managed to pull off a win here, driving deep into Winnipeg territory inside the final 30 seconds. However, they trailed by four points and needed a touchdown (that's where those rouges matter). Masoli had a chance to get it with 14 seconds left, but Winnipeg defensive end Adrian Hubbard broke through and stripped the ball. However, the first Bombers' player to get to it couldn't recover, and the ball again squirted loose. Hubbard was able to track it down himself and fall on it to secure the win for Winnipeg, though.

1. Ryan Smith's no-look catch:

It's incredibly rare when you see a receiver make a catch without even looking back at the ball, but that's what Winnipeg slotback Ryan Smith did on this one. That's a great touchdown catch, even if it didn't appear all that intentional, and it was a key moment for the Bombers' victory.
