Duron Carter knocks down opposing head coach, starts melee, gets ejected

It's highly unusual to see a football player make physical contact with the opposing head coach, but that's what Montreal Alouettes' receiver Duron Carter did Thursday, and he got ejected for it. After catching a touchdown pass whlle taking a big hit from an Ottawa Redblacks' defender, Carter moved towards the Redblacks' sideline, had words with head coach Rick Campbell and then bumped into him hard, sending Campbell crashing to the ground. That started a scrum between the teams and led to Carter's ejection. Here's the initial video of what happened, with commentary from TSN announcers Rod Black and Duane Forde:

Here's the first replay they showed afterwards:

Here's another replay from a reverse angle:

There were suggestions on the broadcast that Campbell may have pushed himself into Carter a bit, too. Here's a replay that appears to show that:

Campbell may well get fined for his actions too, but it was Carter's move that seemed really over-the-top. Colliding with any coach is frowned upon, and colliding so forcefully with a head coach is a big problem. Carter was ejected following this, leaving the Alouettes short a receiver. Further discipline from the league is likely forthcoming too.

This certainly isn't a good look for the CFL, and it seems likely to be something the league will come down hard on Carter for. Carter, the son of NFL hall-of-famer and current ESPN broadcaster Cris Carter, is a talented player who shone with Montreal in 2014, then headed to the NFL for a stint with the Colts last year before returning to the Alouettes this offseason. However, he has taken some criticism for his attitude in the past, and this definitely won't help. Perhaps he should have gotten a fall guy.
