Brian Brikowski gets cut, tweets his annoyance at CFL.ca mispelling his name

Getting cut is one thing, but having the league's official website spell your name wrong in the process? That was the unkindest cut of all for defensive end Brian Brikowski, who was released by the Montreal Alouettes Saturday ahead of the 10 p.m. Eastern deadline for teams to be down to 46-man active rosters. CFL.ca's transaction tracker had his name spelled incorrectly,  causing Brikowski to tweet his annoyance:

The CFL fixed the error around 8:45 p.m. Eastern Saturday, but the misspelling was still live for a while. The conversations Brikowski had later included unofficial CFL stats website cflstatistics.ca tweeting him that they had it right from the start, which led to a pretty funny response:

This is just a simple typo, and typos happen. However, it's highly unfortunate timing; spelling a player's name wrong when he's cut really does add insult to injury. It's sad to see Brikowski go, as his story of making it to the CFL via the incredibly-low-profile Indoor Football League and the Arena Football League was quite something, and he showed some potential filling in for Montreal last year when they had other defensive ends hurt. He finished 2014 with three sacks, 14 defensive tackles and two special teams tackles, and at least the league spells his name correctly on his personal stats page; the Alouettes also got it right in their own website's transactions recap). At just 26, Brikowski may well get a look from another CFL team at some point down the line. Let's just hope the league spells his name right if they get another chance.
