Baseball betting: The Dodgers and Blue Jays are the favorites to lead MLB in wins

Will the Dodgers win the most games during the 2022 MLB regular season?

Los Angeles is just +300 to lead the league in wins over the course of the season. The Dodgers have won 106 games over each of the last two full seasons, though they haven’t led the league in wins in either of those years.

Heck, Los Angeles didn’t even win the NL West a season ago. That crown went to the San Francisco Giants after they finished a game ahead of the Dodgers. In 2019, the Dodgers had nine more wins than anyone else in the National League but the Houston Astros won a game more to lead MLB in wins.

It’s easy to see why the World Series favorite Dodgers are the favorites to win the most games in baseball for the first time in a full season since 2017. Despite losing Corey Seager as a free agent, Los Angeles added Freddie Freeman from an Atlanta Braves team that knocked L.A. out of the playoffs in 2021. Freeman will slot in at first base as Max Muncy slides over to second base and Trea Turner takes Seager’s spot at shortstop.

The defending World Series champions are the No. 2 National League team in the most wins market at +1000. The Braves have a stacked bullpen and traded for Oakland A’s first baseman Matt Olson to replace Freeman. The New York Mets are also at +1000 after adding Max Scherzer in a busy offseason. Could the Braves and Mets do what the Dodgers and Giants did a year ago and have the top two win totals in the National League despite playing in the same division?

Blue Jays top favorite in AL

The No. 2 favorite overall to have the most wins is the Toronto Blue Jays at +600. The Blue Jays signed Kevin Gausman from the Giants and are looking for a full season from George Springer in 2022 after barely missing out on the playoffs in 2021 when four teams in the American League East won at least 91 games.

One of those teams was the New York Yankees and the Yankees are the No. 3 favorite to win the most games at +700. The Yankees have better odds to win the most games in MLB than the Houston Astros — despite the Astros playing in a far weaker division — and the defending AL East champion Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa’s odds to win the most games in baseball are at +1600 and seem to be great value if you think the AL East can replicate its top-heaviness from a year ago.

On the flip side, the Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates are almost assuredly not going to win the most games in baseball. They all have odds of +50000 to win the most games. If there’s a potential surprise in the group it’d be the Royals, but do not spend your money on them in this betting category.

We also heartily recommend you take a look at the betting market for teams to win 100 or more games vs. the most wins market. The Dodgers are at +120 to win 100 or more but everyone else has longer odds to win 100 or more than they do to lead the league in wins. There could be some value there. The last full season without at least 100-game winner came in 2014.
