The unlikely story of a Kenyan on skis

Philip Boit was the first Kenyan man to participate in the Winter Olympics in 1998. His sport: cross-country skiing. The 10km race was taken quickly by Norwegian record-holder Bjorn Daehlie, and Boit struggled through the wet snow to finish 92nd. But in what has become one of those golden Olympic moments, Daehlie refused to begin the medal ceremony. Instead, he waited at the finish line for Boit for another 20 minutes, then embraced the Kenyan. Boit told BBC News: "My coach had been telling me about [Daehlia] and I had seen him on the television and I couldn't believe that he was the top guy and he was holding me." The two have remained fast friends, even after their retirement.
