Kerrigan’s rebound from injury in Norway cast her as the ice princess but she raised eyebrows with comments such as, “This is so dumb. I hate it,” while appearing with Mickey Mouse at a Disney parade not long after. Tragedy struck her family in 2010 when her brother was charged with strangling their father, who later died. For years and years they practice and train in obscurity and then become the country’s darlings when they twirl and lutz their way into Americans’ hearts during the Winter Olympics.  Female figure skaters who make it to the Olympics are part of a small sorority and after the Games are over, some, like Kristi Yamaguchi and Dorothy Hamill, continue to bask in the spotlight.
