Michal Neuvirth’s new mask honors late Flyers owner Ed Snider (Photo)

Michal Neuvirth was in net for the entirety of Saturday night’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins. The Philadelphia Flyers’ netminder was making his preseason debut and showing off his new mask in the process.

On one side is Střekov Castle from Neuvirth’s hometown of Ústí nad Labem. The other side features a great tribute to Ed Snider, the late Flyers’ owner who passed away in April.

“I think it says all you need to say,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said via Philly.com. “He is pretty special within our locker room and every player is going to pay tribute in their own way, and that is one way that Neuvy chooses to do so and I think it’s a great thing.”

Snider owned the franchise since their inception in 1967 as part of the NHL’s expansion from the Original Six era.

Painted by the great Dave Gunnarsson of DaveArt.com, the mask features two images of Snider above the tribute logo designed by artist David E. Wilkinson which was used by the team during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

“Michal Neuvirth knew what he wanted on his new Philadelphia Flyers mask,” Gunnarsson wrote on his Facebook page. “He wanted it transformed into an epic tribute to the one and only, Mr Flyers himself, Ed Snider”
