Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jonathan Drouin set up teammate Brayden Point with a dazzling assist in their Saturday 4-1 win against the Winnipeg Jets.

Midway through the first period as the Jets tried to break out of their zone, Drouin motored around the net and took the puck from Winnipeg forward Blake Wheeler. He then sped to the boards, protected the puck from center Mark Scheifele and then found Point in front for the goal to put Tampa ahead 1-0.

Here is an isolated shot on Drouin during the shift:

“Picked Wheeler off there,” Drouin said according to NHL.com about his assist. “He came back at me, (Mark) Scheifele came. I just went wide with speed, and (Point) set at the net and the goalie kind of shifted the other way off the post, and (Point) just tapped it in.”

After a stretch where he had one point in five games, the 21-year-old Drouin is starting to heat up for Tampa, now with four points in his last four games. Drouin has 35 points in 48 games, having bested his previous career-high of 32 which was set in 70 games in 2014-15.

The Lightning have started to emerge from a season-long funk, getting points in their last four, a stretch where they have gone 3-0-1. The team is now four points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, though Toronto has two games in hand.

“We’ve been playing well for a while now, the past two weeks maybe,” Drouin said. “We’re happy with our defensive play. Offense hasn’t been there that much, but again I think we started off capitalizing on our chances.”
