Blue Jackets' Brandon Dubinsky had wrist surgery, should be ready for season

Brandon Dubinsky’s offseason program will be limited.

The often-antagonizing Columbus Blue Jackets forward underwent surgery to repair an injured wrist, and will be sidelined for three months, general manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced Tuesday via the team’s official website.

Dubinsky’s timetable for return puts him on track to arrive at training camp in September uninhibited.

Kekalainen revealed that Dubinsky had been experiencing discomfort in the joint in the weeks after the season, and the decision was made to have a procedure done after a recent examination.

Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch noted that the injury had plagued Dubinsky throughout the season.

Dubinsky is coming off a so-so season by his standards, scoring 12 goals (his fewest with the Blue Jackets) and 41 points in 80 games, and also had his possession numbers continue on a downward trajectory from season to season.

The Blue Jackets did, however, have better than a 55 percent share of even-strength goals with Dubinsky on the ice, and he offered some value in the faceoff dot as well.

The 31-year-old has four more seasons at $5.85 million remaining on his current contract, which also offers him protection through the expansion process. Brandon Saad and Sergei Bobrovsky are the only Blue Jackets who earn more.
