Wind knocks down 22-yard field goal attempt

Wind knocks down 22-yard field goal attempt

The game of football is played differently north of the border. But a strong wind can crop up anywhere. Montreal Alouettes kicker Sean Whyte found that out the hard way during a Canadian Football League semifinal game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this past week. While lining up a 22-yard attempt in blustery conditions, Whyte's try initially seemed to have more than enough air under it to split the uprights. But that was part of the problem. A heavy gust literally knocked the football straight down and missed hitting the crossbar by inches. Hamilton went on to beat Montreal 19-16 in overtime.

'Nightmare Shake'

You have to credit Washington Wizards center Marcin Gortat for trying. But the former Phoenix Suns pivot's attempt at pulling off his own version of Hakeem Olajuwon's 'Dream Shake' during Wednesday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs fell flat — literally. Gortat posted up Tim Duncan, lost his footing and passed the ball to Martell Webster while timbering awkwardly toward the end-line. A travel call on Webster slightly deflected the embarrassment for Gortat — but there was no doubting who had the best gaffe on that possession.

From bad to worse

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Anthony Bennett's struggles have been well-documented. But it was a moment during the Cavs' game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night that was a microcosm of his first couple weeks in the NBA. He missed a 7-foot bunny — then, after corralling the offensive rebound, missed a two-handed dunk — all in the matter of :01 on the game clock.

Rockstar grannies

Finally, while trying to stay alert during Wichita State's late game against Western Kentucky Monday night, cameras found a pair of older female Shocker fans in the stands chugging an energy drink.
