Dan Evans called a medical timeout at the U.S. Open for a very strange reason

Tennis is one of the toughest sports on an athlete's body. Over the course of two weeks a player might get blisters, cramps, torn muscles and rolled ankles but still play on no matter the pain.

During the second round of the U.S. Open, Dan Evans had a trainer come out for a reason that we haven't heard before. He was struggling with nipple chaffing.

Evans, the consensus No.2 player in Britain behind Andy Murray, was playing Australian Bernard Tomic when he called the trainer out because he was struggling with something that sounds like a Triathlon injury, eventually putting tape over his, umm, injured region.

Evans, a qualifier at this event, went on to upset Tomic and advance to the third round, and as Chris Chase pointed out over at USA Today, earned as much money at this event even if he loses in the third round as he ever has in a singles event, but still, nipple chaffing? That is going to earn you a little ribbing from your fellow professional tennis players.

Murray was the first, taking to Twitter to let Evans know exactly what he thought about that medical timeout, and the 23-year-old even said after his match he understood that some mocking would be coming his way.

“I’m gonna get quite a lot of stick for that,” Evans said, “but it was so painful I had to do it.”

I guess if it continues to be a problem Evans can take the advice from Kevin Spacey's character on "Horrible Bosses."

"Life is a marathon and you cannot win a marathon without putting a few bandaids on your nipples."

Evans faces Tommy Robredo on Saturday for a spot in the fourth round.
