Former Lyon player and manager Bernard Lacombe makes sexist comment on radio show

Bernard Lacombe started his career as a striker with Olympique Lyon, and masterminded several Champions League campaigns as manager of the club after retiring. The 1984 European Championship winner is now an adviser to club president Jean-Michel Aulas, and is credited with bringing in several key signings in recent seasons.

Lacombe may be popular with the Lyon faithful, but he is now unpopular with around 50 percent of the world's population, having made an extremely sexist comment during a show on French talk radio station RMC on Monday. Fielding a call from a female listener criticizing former OL star Karim Benzema, Reuters quote Lacombe's dismissive response:

Lacombe's quotes are surprising, particularly as Lyon's ladies' team have won the league title for the past six years and the Women's Champions League in the past two seasons.

OL Ladies manager Patrice Lair has since said he is "very disappointed" at the lack of respect he has shown. But since 51-year-old male coach Patrice has a vaguely feminine sounding name, Lacombe probably advised his critic to get back to the kitchen, do some knitting or go play with some kittens.
