Is this what Pekka Rinne's life is going the look like without Ryan Suter to help bail him out this season?
Rinne, the Nashville Predators' franchise goaltender, is playing for Dinamo Minsk of the KHL during the NHL lockout. In a game on Monday against Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Rinne went to the corner to his right to play the puck as Enver Lisin — former New York Rangers and Phoenix Coyotes forward — barreled in on the forecheck.
Rinne fumbled the puck; Lisin applied pressure and stole it; and Minsk defenseman Corey Murphy (formerly of the New Jersey Devils) was unable to stop the slam-dunk tuck into the net for a 2-0 lead.
Metallurg won the game, 7-2. Rinne was pulled for Ari Ahonen in the second period when the score was 4-1.
Boy, first he loses the EA Sports cover vote to Giroux, and now this …
Here's additional footage of the gaffe. Rinne is 5-6-0 with a goals against average of 2.78 and a .906 save percentage. Or as they call it in the KHL, "Vezina Favorite."
