Sean Avery reportedly joins the cast of Dancing With the Stars

Dancing with the Stars already got an injection of sports for its next season, with longtime host Brooke Burke-Charvet stepping aside for sports reporter Erin Andrews. There was even a tangential connection to hockey, since Andrews dates Los Angeles Kings center Jarret Stoll.

But now the connection is more than tangential, as the program is set to have its first ever NHLer: Sean Avery. The retired NHLer has reportedly joined the cast of the dancing show, which is, absurdly, entering its 18th season. I'd say they're running out of stars, but they never really had any, so I guess this can go on in perpetuity, especially if you expand your title to Dancing with the former Dallas Stars.

Anyway. From Page Six:

The former Rangers star has been spotted working out in preparation for the show at the New York studio of Gwyneth Paltrow’s trainer Tracy Anderson.

The move will be Avery’s latest career change after working at high-fashion ad agency Lipman, which ran out of cash and closed last year.

Sources said the former NHL stud recently posted a video of himself online showing off some Anderson-inspired dance moves to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” but the video was taken down.

I'm sorry, what's this about Katy Perry? I can't believe I missed that. Too bad it was taken down. Anyway, here's that video:

Admittedly, I know very little about Sean Avery's ability to throw down. But I'll bet you he's better than Master P.

And while we don't know yet how he'll adapt to the pressure of the ballroom floor, hockey fans do know that Sean Avery has always been light on his feet and possessed a flair for the dramatic:

Avery will probably do just fine.
