Predators not happy with Steve Downie after hit on Roman Josi (Video)

Midway through the second period of their 3-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche, the Nashville Predators lost defenseman Roman Josi for the game after this hit by Steve Downie:

So what to make of the hit?

Downie was given two minutes for charging, while Shea Weber, who immediately went after him, was handed a double minor for roughing.

It doesn't appear as if Downie completely leaves his feet to make the hit, but he does launch himself into Josi. It's also hard to tell definitively if any contact to the head is made. If you watched Brendan Shanahan's educational videos over the summer, a suspension usually comes if a player travels a significant way and launches themselves into a player's head.

The Predators, as you'd expect, weren't happy with Downie.

Predators head coach Barry Trotz said afterward he expects "something" to come out of the league's review, which they do for all hits.

Downie has a history of supplemental discipline, with the last punishment a fine coming in Dec. 2011. He's also not a stranger to this kind of hit, just ask Dean McAmmond.

Meanwhile, Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy thought otherwise, telling Adrian Dater of the Denver Post, "That was a great hit I thought. I don't know, I need to re-look at it, but I thought it was a fair check."

UPDATE: According to CBC's Elliotte Friedman, there will be no hearing for Downie.
