Phil Kessel pulls video game move, beats Avs in OT (Video)

Phil Kessel’s game-winning overtime goal against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night should look familiar to anyone that played EA Sports’ “NHL 94.”

It’s your classic skate into the zone, stop, move around the defense into the shooting lane and then firing the puck past the goaltender. Just use the control pad. There's not even a button combination for it.

It’s just that until tonight, we were unaware that the Colorado Avalanche defense was being controlled by the computer on “EASY” setting.

Kessel’s goal against a powerless Nick Holden and Tyson Barrie came 34 seconds into overtime, giving the Toronto Maple Leafs a 3-2 comeback win over the Avalanche. It was Kessel’s second goal of the season and second point on the night, having previously assisted on linemate James van Riemsdyk’s first-period goal.

Boy, if only that Phil Kessel skated during the summer. Imagine how fast and agile he’d be. Oh, wait, that criticisms are garbage? Gotcha.
