NHL Three Stars: Jooris tricks Coyotes; Fleury, Quick record shutouts

No. 1 Star: Josh Jooris, Calgary Flames

The 22-year old rookie tallied his first NHL hat trick as Calgary beat the Arizona Coyotes 5-2. Curtis Glencross and Dennis Wideman each had a pair of assists, while Karri Ramo made 26 saves. The Flames have taken 14 points in their last nine games, moving them to within a point of Western Conference leaders Vancouver and Anaheim.

No. 2 Star: Daniel Sedin, Vancouver Canucks

Sedin scored twice on the power play, including the game winner with 10:21 left in the third period as the Canucks got by the Washington Capitals 4-3. Brother Henrik recorded a pair of assists, including one on Daniel’s second of the night:

No. 3 Stars: Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh Penguins / Jonathan Quick, LA Kings

Fleury recorded his fifth shutout of the season, matching a career high, as the Penguins blanked the New Jersey Devils 1-0. Evgeni Malkin’s third period goal was all that was needed and Fleury made 29 stops for the 33rd shutout of his career.

Quick, meanwhile, was stellar between the pipes as the Kings blanked the Boston Bruins 2-0. It was Quick's third shutout of the season and 34th of his career. Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli supplied the goals, while Quick made 31 saves, including this robbery of Torey Krug, via @MyRegularFace:

Honorable Mention: Scott Gomez played 22 minutes in his first game for the Devils since 2007 … Thomas Hickey scored 3:07 into overtime to give the New York Islanders a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators. The Islanders are now 8-0 in overtime and the shootout on the season:

John Carlson scored twice and assisted on another in a losing effort for the Capitals … Brooks Laich scored the goal of the night:

Tyler Ennis and Cody Hodgson scored in the shootout, while Jhonas Enroth made 26 saves, plus two in the skills competition as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1. The Sabres have now won six of seven. What tank? … Jeff Skinner scored the game’s opening goal and later assisted on Victor Rask’s tally, which would later stand as the winner, as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Nashville Predators 2-1. Skinner now has 10 points in six career games against the Predators … Two goals from Joffrey Lupul and three points from Mike Santorelli and Nazem Kadri helped the Toronto Maple Leafs down the Dallas Stars 5-3. According to the AP, the Leafs “haven't lost at home since getting thrashed by Nashville on Nov. 18. Since back-to-back losses by a combined 15-4, they've outscored opponents 23-12.” … Vince Trochek scored once and assisted on two others as the Florida Panthers defeated Detroit 4-3, ending the Red Wings’ four-game winning streak. Florida has now won three of four. Roberto Luongo made 38 saves … Matt Nieto's goal with 11.5 seconds left in the third broke a 1-1 tie and helped give the San Jose Sharks a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Antti Niemi made 28 saves for his first win in six starts. It was the first time the Sharks won back-to-back games since Oct. 26-28.

Along with other injuries hitting their lineup, the Penguins learned they’ll be without forward Chris Kunitz for a “couple of weeks” with a foot fracture … The Flyers have lost five in a row and won only once in their last 10 games.
