Bobby Farnham suspended 4 games for 'violent, predatory hit' (Video)

It's not a good sign when the Department of Player Safety uses the terms "violent" and "predatory" multiple times when describing an incident.

Bobby Farnham of the New Jersey Devils was mad that Kevin Shattenkirk leveled him with a legal hit. From the moment Shattenkirk made contact, Farnham wanted to hit anything wearing blue.

Like a heat seeking missile, Farnham targeted Dmitrij Jaskin and just destroyed him well after the St. Louis Blues forward released the puck. He received a major penalty on the play, and will sit out the next four games for the Devils. For his efforts, the Farnham will be out $12,365.60.

One person that will be caught off guard by this suspension? Bobby Farnham.

"Farnham said after the game he would be “shocked” if he got a call from the NHL. He also didn't think the hit was “worthy of a major penalty.”
“It was one of those things where, I haven't looked at it, but maybe it was a tad late, but I was just trying to provide some energy and get us going in the third,” Farnham said."

If that was his intent, it didn't work. Farnham's hit was midway through the third with the Devils down by two. The Blues didn't score on the major penalty, but came out on top, 5-2.
