Blues lose Alex Steen for a month as injury woes continue

The St. Louis Blues sent out a press release with a familar theme on Sunday, which announced a couple of call ups from their AHL affiliate in Chicago.

The reason? Another injury to one of their stars, this time to Alex Steen.

During Saturday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes, Steen landed awkwardly near the corner boards following a collision with Kevin Connauton.

The Blues placed Steen, their second-leading scorer, on injured reserve with an upper-body injury, adding that he’ll be re-evaluated in four weeks.

This season’s story for the Blues seems to be when one player gets healthy another leaves the lineup. As Steen hit IR, St. Louis activated goaltender Jake Allen, who’s missed 17 games with a lower-body injury. They’ve already dealt with injuries to Jaden Schwartz, Patrik Berglund, Paul Stastny and Kevin Shattenkirk, among others, giving them 217 man-games lost, per ManGamesLost.com, heading into this weekend.

Through it all, the Blues have still played their way into the Central Division's third seed with 21 games left in the regular season, two points behind the Chicago Blackhawks.
