Prince Fielder says he doesn’t know how to slide, here are 25 photos proving him right

Detroit Tigers slugger Prince Fielder admitted on Thursday that he suffers from an embarrassing problem. While he excels at hitting a baseball, and even possesses the rudimentary ability to throw and catch, Fielder said he still lacks a certain, basic fundamental that most adult baseball players have mastered by age 28.

MLive has the sad details from Detroit's Comerica Park:

By his own admission, Fielder said he is still learning how to correctly slide.

That was apparent when he sloppily dove headfirst into second base in the second inning of Thursday afternoon's 5-1 win, colliding with Los Angeles Angels second baseman Maicer Izturis.

"I just don't know how to slide," Fielder said after the game. "I'm trying to get there. I just want to be safe. So, however I can get there, I just try to get it done."

Admitting that you have a shortcoming is always the first step, Prince. But how bad is it, really? Does he really not know how to slide? In order to find out, the Stew's blog fairies have assembled 25 photos of Prince Fielder sliding through the years, starting with a special four-part, moment-by-moment replay of him nudging Izturis gently away from second base:

Prince in motion is one wrinkled, billowy mess, isn't he?

Matter cannot occupy the same space.

"My base. MY! BASE!"

"Did I do it right?"

Happier times with the Brewers: A baby-faced Fielder slides in his socks on a mat during a spring training practice in 2007. This drill obviously re-creates the game situation down to the finest detail.

Face tag!

Like any good opera at the Met, it ain't over until the fat guy slides.

"Stay clear of my junk, Fielder."

Eatin' dirt.

"I bet I can knock the ball out with my patented flying elbow."

Imagine being poor J.P. Arencibia, here. He has to be terrified.

"Ya' missed me, chump!"

"Ticklemonster time with your Uncle Geo!"

"Hold on a second, I'm doing something."

"Is it safe to get up yet?"

* * *

"That hurt more than I thought it would."

* * *

"Chillin. What are you doin'?"

* * *

"This means 'stand up,' Dawg!"

* * *

"[Golly], if I knew the ball was gonna be way over there, I wouldn't have done it like this."

* * *

"Why do they always got to be smacking my face like this?"

* * *

"You feel the ball under there anywhere, man? 'Cause I think it's under there somewhere, man."

* * *

"Oh, wow, this actually was a pretty good slide — how did that happen?!"

* * *

"I definitely broke my belt this time."
