Wild QMJHL line brawl between Chicoutimi Sagueneens and PEI Rocket (VIDEO)

Run over a hockey team's goalie and something such as this will often ensue. The Chicoutimi Saguenéens and PEI Rocket, as teams in separate divisions, don't play each other very often, but apparently that absence only makes the hearts turn harder.

The two QMJHL teams had a dandy line brawl on Thursday night which ended with nine game misconducts, including two to the Saguenéens' Gabriel Gagnon, who precipitated the fracas by piling on to PEI goalie Maxime Lagacé. Fights broke out across the ice, including a fast-paced set-to between PEI's Deverick Ottereyes and Chicoutimi's Mathieu Gagnon.

The second fight during the same stoppage of play, along with the third, fourth and fifth, results in automatic ejection. It will likely also trigger supplemental discipline for both teams.

Both teams were near their boiling point throughout the contest. The Rocket's rise from cellar-dweller last season to fifth overall in the QMJHL has probably stoked some frustration among teams who were used to them being a soft touch in years past. Also, PEI's Victor Provencher delivered a cross-check from behind in the first period on Chicoutimi's Alexandre Roy.

The Rocket are already down one key forward since veteran Matej Beran has a broken wrist. They could be further short-staffed in the days ahead.
