Rimouski Oceanic’s Guillaume McSween facing suspension for knee-on-knee hit (VIDEO)

Two seasons ago, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League meted out a 15-game ban after Jonathan Lessard ended forward Nick Sorensen's season with a blatant knee-to-knee hit.

The QMJHL has yet to hand down a longer ban, and by no means is this a suggestion Rimouski Océanic rookie defenceman Guillaume McSween will sit for that long after taking out the Victoriaville Tigres' Jan Mandat on Friday. Mandat, a rookie from the Czech Republic, was trying to manoeuvre out a corner on Friday when McSween, a fellow rookie, felled him. McSween got a major and game misconduct and has been placed under suspension; Mandat missed the Tigres' game last Saturday.

The length of the suspension will likely come down to how seriously Mandat is injured and how much of McSween's approach to play was recklessness and how much of it was just inexperience, not taking the best route to cut off the puck carrier. It's an error and the Valleyfield, Que., native will be shelved for a few games, but one should not lose sight of the fact that perhaps the fact it's a player in only his 10th major junior game was a possible factor.
