No. 1 star: Louis-Philip Guindon, Rimouski Océanic (QMJHL)

Guindon, who took over in Rimouski's goal early in Tuesday's Game 3 win, maintained his hot hand with a 26-save shutout during a 3-0 win against the Gatineau Olympiques that opened a 3-1 series lead. With their playoff life at stake, Gatineau dominated the zone time in the opening 20 minutes and Guindon, making his first start in the series, had to make 14 saves to keep the game scoreless. His team broke through to tally twice in the second and chase Gatineau overage goalie François Brassard. Late in the period, after a turnover as a penalty expired, the Olympiques had a 2-on-0 breakaway. Guindon anticipated Yan Pavel Laplante's backhand move and came up with a save.

The shutout gave Guindon a 114-minute, 15-second scoreless skein since replacing Philippe Desrosiers early in Tuesday's game.

No. 2 star: Daniel Wapple, Regina Pats (WHL)

For the second night in a row, Wapple was the best player at the Brandt Centre, making 45 saves before rookie Tanner Kaspick scored to give Brandon a 3-2 overtime win and 3-1 lead over Regina in the East Division final. Wapple was a profile in cat-like readiness throughout the contest as the Pats went stride for stride and toe for toe with the Wheat Kings. The netminder stopped 26-of-27 shots in the first two periods, allowing only a goalie to rookie standout Nolan Patrick. In the third, the Pats were put in a pinch when Connor Hobbs was assessed a kneeing major/game misconduct after a knee-on-knee hit on Wheat Kings defenceman Ryan Pilon. Wapple stepped up his game during the five-minute penalty kill, as Brandon's potent power play could only score once to tie the game instead of using the prime opportunity to take the lead.

No. 3 star: Anthony Richard, Val-d'Or Foreurs (QMJHL)

Richard (1G-1A, -1) assisted on the winner as Val-d'Or stayed alive with a 4-3 double-OT comeback win against Baie-Comeau, which still leads 3-1. The Foreurs were in dire straits after falling behind by three goals in the second, but you never count out the heart of a defending league champion. Richard, an 18-year-old from Trois-Rivières, Que., tallied late in the second to keep the rally going and overage Simon Tremblay equalized 2½ minutes into the third.

In the second OT, Baie-Comeau's Jasmin Boutet was penalized for holding the stick. At the game's exact 90-minute mark, Richard got the puck to Julien Gauthier, who put the winner past Drakkar goalie Philippe Cadorette (48 saves).

Potent notables — Brandon Magee (1G-1A, +2) got his ninth of the playoffs to force overtime as Victoria went on a 5-4 win, cutting Kelowna's B.C. Division final lead to 3-1. Edmonton Oilers signing Greg Chase got the winner exactly 5½ minutes into the sudden-victory session, capping a night where 5-of-6 games nationwide needed overtime... Rookie Jordy Stallard had the decider 7:22 into OT to give Calgary a 2-1 win at Medince Hat and 3-1 lead in the Central Division final. Both Stallard and the Wheat Kings' OT scorer, Tanner Kaspick, hail from Brandon, Man. ... Calgary's Mack Shields had 35 saves ... Jacob Sweeney (1G-1A, +2) helped Moncton win 3-2 in overtine at Halifax, tying the QMJHL quarter-final series 2-2.
