Hawryluk scores four as Wheat Kings put 10-spot up on Winterhawks: Saturday's 3 Stars

No. 1 star: Jayce Hawryluk, Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL)

It's been a long while since the Portland Winterhawks took a beating like they did Saturday in Manitoba, and Hawryluk outscored Portland by himself, notching four goals in a 10-3 Wheat Kings victory. The 18-year-old Florida Panthers prospect scored all of his goals in the second and third periods as Brandon continued a torrid scoring flurry that started in the third period of Friday's 8-3 win over Swift Current. He has nine goals in nine games this season.

In Friday's game, the Wheat Kings scored five goals in the final 10 minutes of the game. Combined with Saturday's effort, Brandon has now put up 15 goals in its last 70 minutes of play.

The Wheat Kings, who improved to 8-2-1-0, also got a big night from Reid Duke (1G-3A, +5) and three-point efforts from Rihard Bukarts and Peter Quenneville.

Portland, meanwhile, allowed double digits for the first time since October 2009 and just the second time in 15 years. The Winterhawks fell to 2-8-0-2 under new coach and GM Jamie Kompon.

No. 2 star: Jackson Houck, Vancouver Giants (WHL)

As big as Brandon's win was, it wasn't the largest margin of victory in the WHL on Saturday. That honour belonged to the Giants, who pounded Prince George 9-1 at Pacific Coliseum. Houck dominated with three goals and two assists to record the first five-point night of his WHL career.

The Oilers prospect opened the floodgates for Vancouver with a first-period goal, then added two more early in the third as the Giants led 9-0 before allowing a late goal.

The Cougars were coming off a solid 3-1 victory in Seattle on Friday but never had a chance against the Giants, who nearly recorded a second straight shutout after blanking Kamloops 3-0 on Friday.

No. 3 star: Remi Elie, Belleville Bulls (OHL)

Elie scored two first-periold goals and added two assists as the Bulls handed Sault Ste. Marie its first loss of the season, 6-4.

The Dallas Stars signee's second of the game at 12:29 of the first period put Belleville up 3-0 and chased Soo goalie Brandon Halverson from the game. The Bulls led 4-1 through one period and 6-4 through two, then held off the Greyhonds as Belleville goalie Charlie Graham stopped all 20 shots he faced in the third. Graham made 46 saves on the night.

Elie led the the Bulls in scoring last season with 65 points after coming over in an early-season from London, and has 15 points in his first nine games this season.
