Pennsylvania H.S. senior sets national lacrosse scoring record

Morgan Day scored six goals in her team's 15-11 district playoff win on Friday. All of the goals mattered, but the first was slightly more special than the rest: With that first goal, Day set a new national record. She had tied the record in the final minute of her previous game.

She scored the record-setter in the 14th minute of Friday's game.

“It’s a great feeling, especially being my senior year,” Day told the York Daily News. “It’s an incredible feeling to set that standard and even better to have my team, family and everyone supporting me there to share it with me.”

The accomplishment was a bit of a family affair – her younger sister and Kennard-Dale (Pa.) High teammate, Maddie Day, assisted on the record-breaking goal, and their dad is one of the coaches.

“We didn’t plan it, it just kind of happened!” Day said. “It was really special to break the record with him coaching and my sister assisting me. It was really cool to keep it within the family.”

The previous record was 459 goals, set last year by North Carolina's Meghan Shortt, acording to the National Federation of HIgh School State Associations.

Kennard-Dale lost in in the first round of the state playoffs on Wednesday, but not before Day added four more goals to her career total, as reported by GameTimePA.com. That's leaves the record at 469.

Day will bring her talents to St. Francis next year.
