Ohio prep softball teammates combine to steal 19 bases in same game

It's an unwritten rule of baseball not to steal bases when in possession of an insurmountable lead. Apparently, the same guideline doesn't apply to softball.

Lynchburg (Ohio)-Clay High freshman Hannah Binkley tied a state record with 10 stolen bases in a five-inning, 31-5 mercy-rule win over Manchester. In the same game, Binkley's junior teammate Madysyn Creighton became only the fourth player in Ohio prep history to steal at least nine bases in a single contest.

Again, that's 19 stolen bases in one game between two players, which seems almost impossible.

"Everyone hit," Lynchburg-Clay head coach Spring Roberts told the Hillsboro Times Gazette. "We hit hard, and we took advantage of everything we could (Tuesday). "Manchester was not an easy team to score this many runs on. The slappers got on, stole and then handed it off to the next set. We played aggressive."

Most likley, Roberts either gave the green light and never turned it red or wore himself out repeating the steal signal. According to the Times Gazette, Binkley finished 6-for-6 — including a home run and double — scored six times and amassed 13 RBI, which goes down in history as another single-game state record.

Creighton reportedly finished 3-for-6 with nine RBI and five runs scored. While the Times Gazette originally reported Creighton stole 12 bases in the game, the Ohio High School Athletic Association recognized Binkley's 10 stolen bases as the state record and Creighton's nine as the fourth most all-time.

In Ohio, nobody had stolen more than seven bases in a single game since Columbiana Crestview's Jenny Snyder swiped 10 in 1997.
