World Cup 2014: Where to watch the action across Canada

The FIFA World Cup is the perfect excuse to do some day-drinking and watch some soccer, so grab some friends and head down to one of these fine establishments for a drink or two and a seat in front of the big-screen to take in the world's most popular sporting spectacle. Here's where you should go for the action across our great country.

Toronto

A column in England's The Telegraph maintains that Toronto is the best city in the world to experience the World Cup. Here's your chance to see for yourself. College Street remains a sentimental choice, especially for Italy and Portugal games but there are going to be fans all over the city taking in the action. The Globe and Mail, Tourism Toronto, and Blog TO all put together lists of the places you want to be to soak in the best World Cup atmosphere outside of Brazil.

Montreal

Montreal has a reputation as a great party city and that certainly doesn't change during World Cup time. L’Barouf is the place where the France faithful gather to watch Les Bleus, but there are a number of options for fans of every nation, many along St-Laurent Boulevard including local favourite Chez Serge. Here's MTL Blog's list of the 16 best places to watch the action and celebrate across the city.

Vancouver

Commercial Drive is the hub of World Cup action in Vancouver. Known as a stronghold for supporters of Italy, you will also find the home bases of Portugal, Germany, Croatia, and the five African nations. Here's a comprehensive list of where to watch your favourite country play in Vancouver compiled by Van City Buzz. Trying to capitalize on the excitement of the event, Richmond's Steveston Village is hoping to draw fans away from downtown with a series of special events and themed days.

Ottawa

The Georgetown Pub proclaims itself as Ottawa's No. 1 soccer pub. Located in the downtown core, the Georgetown will be hopping for every game while also being the prime destination for all England matches. Also, the Sala San Marco banquet hall in Little Italy will be showing every Italy and Spain match and the Heart and Crown is worth a visit to experience the best Brazil has to offer in our nation's capital.

Calgary

The best bet for frosty suds and fine soccer in Calgary is the Ship & Anchor. Other places worth checking out are the World Bier Haus, Limericks Pub, and the Roosevelt.

Edmonton

Like in many cities across the country, Little Italy is going to be the centre of the World Cup party in Edmonton. Metro News has recommended 10 places for you to watch the games.

Winnipeg

The Caboto Centre, an Italian community centre, is showing every game of the tournament. The atmosphere is sure to be festive when the four-time World Cup champions Italy take the field.

Regina

Saskatchewan's capital offers football fans plenty of options to take in the action. The Lobby Public House, O'Hanlons, and Abstractions Cafe Bistro, are the go-to soccer-watching locales while a full list of possible options can be seen here.

Halifax

The Nova Scotia Multicultural Festival, which runs from June 15-22, plans to take advantage of the World Cup buzz. Bubba Ray’s Sports Bar is also expecting big crowds for the games.

Bonus: Whistler, B.C.

Tapley's Neighborhood Pub in Whistler Village is where I'll be watching the opening game of the tournament. If you happen to be in Whistler come by and watch Brazil face Croatia to kick off the 2014 World Cup!
