Who should win the Lou Marsh Trophy? Have your say

First presented in 1936, the Lou Marsh Trophy is presented annually to Canada’s top athlete, professional or amateur. Marsh was an athlete, referee and sports editor at The Toronto Star before his death. The award is voted on by a panel of Canadian sports journalists.

The 2013 award will be presented on Monday and there is no clear front runner. With no major event this year, like an Olympics, a lockout shortened NHL season, and impressive performances in many sports the field is wide open.

It includes the likes of Milos Raonic. The Thornhill, Ont., native rose to No. 11 in the world tennis rankings and led Canada to the Davis Cup semi-finals. A tennis player has never won the award. Jon Cornish, the Calgary Stampeders’ running back, led the CFL in rushing yards in 2013 and was the first Canadian player to win the Most Outstanding Player award since 1978. Dominique Maltais earned the fourth Crystal Globe of her career as the overall champion in snowboard cross and won a silver medal at the World Snowboarding Championship.
