Nova Scotia’s Johneil Johnson throws down thunderous dunk at Canadian national championships (VIDEO)

A slick dunk by Johneil Johnson, left, is taking off online. Levi Smith, right, sent him the pass.

Johneil Johnson, once again, is showing who has the choicest hops in his home province of Nova Scotia.

Last fall, the 5-foot-11 guard garnered widespread attention for completing an off-the-backboard alley-oop during a Halifax-area high school game. Monday, with bigger stakes and against higher-calibre opposition during the Canadian 17-and-under men's championship in Edmonton, Johnson pulled off another impressive dunking feat. Even though he is less than six feet tall, the Cole Harbour, N.S., native skied over two Quebec defenders — box out a little harder next time, eh — and threw one down.

Cole Harbour: more than hockey players.

Johnson ended up hooping a game-high 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting and helped Nova Scotia overcome a slow start to beat Quebec 87-84 and reach the tournament semifinals.

There have surely been some other did-you-see-that highlight plays over the course of the national championships. It was facetious to say that alley-oop dunk Johnson pulled off for his school team, the Auburn Drive Panthers, was Canada's high school dunk of the year, even though some media types took it literally. Regardless, that was a big-time play that deserved to be shared.
