Three Stars: Rennie Curran, Chevon Walker and Jamal Miles shine brightly in Week 19

Here's another edition of our weekly Three Stars series, looking at the top offensive, defensive, special teams and Canadian players from Week 19's action.

First star/defensive player of the week: Rennie Curran, linebacker, Edmonton Eskimos: Curran has done a terrific job of filling in for injured middle linebacker J.C. Sherritt over the last few weeks, and Saturday was no exception. He made a game-high 11 tackles and added an interception that he returned 56 yards for a crucial early touchdown in Edmonton's 30-26 win over Saskatchewan. While there's bound to be plenty of turnover in Edmonton following a 4-14 season that's already seen head coach Kavis Reed fired, the 24-year-old Georgia product has made a strong case to be part of the Eskimos' organization going forward.

(Honourable mentions: Chip Cox, LB, Montreal; Henoc Muamba, LB, Winnipeg; James Rogers, DB, Hamilton.)

Second star/offensive player of the week: Chevon Walker, running back, Hamilton Tiger-Cats: It was a great week for running backs, with Chris Garrett collecting 152 yards and a touchdown for Saskatchewan on 23 carries, Andrew Harris picking up 102 yards and a touchdown for B.C. on 16 carries and Jerious Norwood collecting 102 yards on just eight carries for Toronto. Walker's showing stood out, though, as he blended efficiency with total production, rushing 11 times for 116 yards and a touchdown in Hamilton's 37-7 pummelling of Winnipeg Saturday. The second-year man out of the University of Sioux Falls also had perhaps the week's most impressive play, a 70-yard touchdown run where he weaved through a maze of defenders. C.J. Gable has been the Tiger-Cats' featured back for much of the stretch run, but on Saturday, Walker made a strong case to be included in their backfield going forward.

(Honourable mentions: Chris Garrett, RB, Saskatchewan; Onrea Jones, WR, Hamilton; Jerious Norwood, RB, Toronto.)

Third star/special teams player of the week: Jamal Miles, punt returner/kick returner, Edmonton Eskimos: Miles delivered an outstanding showing for Edmonton on special teams Saturday, collecting 105 punt return yards on six attempts (including a spectacular 79-yard touchdown return) and adding 157 kick return yards on four attempts. Miles is in his first CFL season, and the Arizona product has been one of the brightest lights in Edmonton this year. Big things may be in store for him in the years to come.

(Honourable mentions: Chris Milo, K, Saskatchewan; Paul McCallum, P/K, B.C.; Rob Maver, P, Calgary.)

Bonus star/Canadian player of the week: Andrew Harris, running back, B.C. Lions: Harris has bounced back from an awful week two games ago in a big way, earning back-to-back Bonus Star nods here. He shone for B.C. Friday night, collecting 102 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries (6.4 yards per carry), adding a catch for seven yards and proving a valuable backfield mate to Stefan Logan. Harris and Logan give the Lions an enviable pair of weapons on the ground, and both could be effective forces in the playoffs.

(Honourable mentions: Henoc Muamba, LB, Winnipeg; Marc-Olivier Brouillette, LB, Montreal; Chris Milo, K, Saskatchewan.)
