Planes, trains and…buses? Argonauts’ bus reportedly breaks down en route to Edmonton
The Toronto Argonauts figured they'd simplify their travel by staying in Alberta between last week's game against Calgary and Saturday's upcoming game against Edmonton, but boy, were they wrong. According to various Twitter reports, the team's bus broke down outside Red Deer (about an hour and a half outside Calgary, so almost halfway between the cities) Friday, leaving the players initially standing in a ditch and then regrouping at a McDonalds. Here are some of the tweets in question:
Apparently the #argos bus has broken down on the way to #yeg. I don't think it's the start of a Ricky Ray trade revolt but you never know

@olearychris We passed the bus. They were all standing in the ditch and are now in Red Deer McDonalds with us. — April (@AprilWiens) September 27, 2013
This seems too ridiculous to even tweet, but…I was told the #argos bus was fixed then rear-ended a vehicle. Delayed again. #CFL — Chris O'Leary (@olearychris) September 27, 2013
This can't be true. Argo bus fixed. Then rear ends somebody? Hold it. Maybe it is true. Is Mitchell driving? — Terry Jones (@sunterryjones) September 27, 2013
Apparently the @TorontoArgos bus broke down at #RedDeer heading to #YEG and players are passing the time at McDonald's. Only in the #CFL

The Esks have been in said ditch since July. RT @sunterryjones: Argos bus broke down. Players reported standing in ditch south of Red Deer. — Scott Mitchell (@SUNMitchell) September 27, 2013
This may sound like a plot from a John Hughes movie (hopefully they weren't going the wrong way), but apparently it's real. It's quite amazing that it proved harder to get from Calgary to Edmonton than from Toronto to Edmonton, but hey, that's the CFL for you. (It's also funny that this happened right after Argonauts.ca posted a piece entitled "A TEAM THAT TRAVELS TOGETHER, WINS TOGETHER." Perhaps that bonding will be intensified at McDonalds, even if it's not the pre-game food recommended by most nutritionists?) Oh well, at least the team already was able to work in a wedding, so that particular Hughes plot won't be happening. I can see the letter to team management now, though: "Dear Mr. Barker, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Friday in Red Deer for whatever it is that we did wrong..."
