The IRS wants to end another major tax loophole for the wealthy and raise $50 billion in the process

The IRS plans to end a major tax loophole for wealthy taxpayers that could raise more than $50 billion in revenue over the next decade, the U.S. Treasury Department says. The guidance and ruling being announced Monday includes plans to essentially stop “partnership basis shifting" — a process by which a business or person can move assets among a series of related parties to avoid paying taxes. Biden administration officials said after evaluating the practice that there are no economic grounds for these transactions, with Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo calling it “really just a shell game.”

Cincinnati Zoo's Gladys The Gorilla Has Special Cast Removed

Cincinnati Zoo's Gladys The Gorilla Has Special Cast Removed. Gladys the gorilla is well on the mend after having an innovative titanium cast removed on 12 June 2024. The cast, the first of its kind, was placed on Gladys's broken arm in late April. She broke her arm in a scuffle with her siblings - and required the special cast due to her strength. Dr. Jessica Heinz, a veterinarian at the Cincinnati Zoo says Gladys will now work with a physical therapist to gain her muscle back. She has already begun participating in physical therapy training sessions. While a date for Gladys's return to her habitat has not been set, her progress will be monitored daily, and plans will be adjusted as needed before she returns to her troop. Its leader, the Silverback Mbeli, is a confident and patient leader and is expected to handle this process well.
