    Jordan offers Syria support in meeting with new leader

    Jordan stands ready to help Syria rebuild, its foreign minister said after meeting Syria's new de facto ruler Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus on Monday, the highest-level contact by an Arab state with Syria's new Islamist-led administration. Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Al-Khulaifi also arrived in Damascus on Monday for meetings aboard the first Qatar Airways flight to land in the Syrian capital since former President Bashar al-Assad was toppled, the Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on X.

    Chinese court issues suspended death sentence to man who drove car into a crowd of schoolchildren

    A Chinese court issued a suspended death sentence Monday to a man for driving his car into a crowd of elementary school students and parents in southern Hunan province last month. Huang Wen was arrested on site after wounding about 30, 18 of them children, according to the Changde Intermediate People’s Court's statement, which marks the first time authorities have revealed official figures. The court said he rammed his car into the crowd on Nov. 19 after losing invested money, taking out his frustration on bystanders.

    Reith resurfaces in dual Acrisure-Volante role

    Former Helios CEO Martin Reith has resurfaced in a dual position as executive chairman of Volante Global and advisor to Acrisure Re Corporate Advisory and Solutions. In the Volante role Reith will provide strategic support and advice to the board on sustainable growth opportunities. His Acrisure role will see him advise Ben Canagaretna, Acrisure Re's Corporate Advisory and Solutions managing director, on accessing third-party capital.
