Player Notes
Jason Heyward (ribs) has returned to the Cubs' starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: This confirms what Cubs manager Joe Maddon said during a radio appearance Tuesday. Heyward ended up missing three starts due to a contusion on his right side. The 26-year-old is batting just .225/.329/.282 through his first 37 games this season. He'll bat second against his former team on Tuesday.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said during a radio appearance that Jason Heyward (ribs) is expected to return to the starting lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Heyward hasn't played since he suffered a contusion on his right side while making a fantastic catch on Friday against the Giants. However, he took batting practice without any issues on Monday and has apparently convinced the Cubs that he's ready to go.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that Jason Heyward (ribs) could play in this week's series against the Cardinals.

Advice: Heyward is out of the lineup for the third straight game as a result of a bruise near his right rib and hip suffered while making a diving catch on Friday. However, he was able to hit on the field Monday, which is a good sign.

Jason Heyward (ribs) is out of the Cubs' starting lineup on Monday night in St. Louis.

Advice: Heyward bruised the right side of his rib cage Friday on a diving catch attempt in San Francisco. Kris Bryant is starting in right field and batting second Monday versus Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright. Javier Baez will start at third and bat seventh.

Jason Heyward's MRI revealed only a bruise on his right side near his rib cage.

Advice: He'll be sidelined for the next 3-5 days. Heyward hurt himself Friday when he made a diving catch against the Giants. Though he's struggled offensively, Heyward has run well (five steals) this year while providing his usual Gold Glove-caliber defense in right field. The Cubs should be relieved to know their $184 million outfielder will avoid the disabled list.

Jason Heyward (hip, ribs) is not in the Cubs' starting lineup Saturday against the Giants.

Advice: He's waiting for MRI results after leaving Friday night's game with rib and hip injuries. Ben Zobrist will fill in at right field and bat fourth with Javier Baez getting the nod at second base. Baez could become close to an every-day player if Heyward lands on the disabled list.

Jason Heyward is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine the severity of the injury that he sustained when crashing into the outfield wall after making a diving catch on Friday.

Advice: The Cubs announced late Friday that Heyward was under observation to his right torso/abdomen region, and the outfielder said that his "lower rib bone and hip bone hit each other." While Heyward downplayed the severity of the injury, he could still be looking at a trip to the disabled list. Expect an update from the Cubs on his status on Saturday.

Jason Heyward was forced to leave Friday's game with an apparent injury after crashing into the outfield fence after making a diving catch.

Advice: It's unclear at the moment exactly what the injury is, but it looked as though it could be to his collarbone or shoulder. The Cubs should have an update on his status shortly.
