'Bring Ya Ass': Minnesota Man Gets to Grips With Timberwolves Rallying Cry

An off-the-cuff response during a TV interview by a Minnesota Timberwolves star player has led fans of the team to adopt the phrase “bring ya ass” as a rallying cry as the team continues its quest for the 2024 NBA Finals. One Timberwolves fan, Sheletta Brundidge, has even taken it upon herself to teach fellow supporters how to say the phrase correctly, sharing footage of a friend getting to grips with the phrase on May 22.The phrase became central to the Timberwolves playoffs narrative after their game seven victory over the Denver Nuggets on May 20.Shooting guard Anthony Edwards was being interviewed by NBA legend Charles Barkley, who said he had not been to Minnesota in “probably 20 years.” Edwards urged the former power forward to “bring ya ass” to the state during the team’s Western Conference finals series against the Dallas Mavericks. The phrase almost immediately went viral, being acknowledged by the state’s governor, and featuring in a social media post from Explore Minnesota.Brundidge told Storyful, “I live in Minnesota and was hearing all the folks who live here say ‘bring ya ass’ in three syllables when it’s really two syllables. So I’m teaching all my white friends how to say it properly.” Credit: Sheletta Brundidge via Storyful
