George Eastham, talented footballer who brought an end to the domestic game’s ‘slavery contract’

George Eastham, the footballer, who has died aged 88, was a talented inside-forward who scored the winning goal in a Wembley final, won 19 caps for England and was a member of the World Cup-winning squad in 1966. His place in English football history, however, had been sealed three years before that in a London courtroom.
