    Metro Bank revives £3bn mortgage sale after investor bailout

    Metro Bank is reviving plans to offload a multibillion pound mortgage months after an investor bailout rescued it from the brink of collapse. Sky News has learnt that the London-listed high street lender is working with Morgan Stanley on a process to raise capital from the sale of the mortgages. The revival of the process comes four months after Metro Bank said it was cutting 1,000 jobs and ending its seven-day branch opening model in an effort to exert tighter control of costs.

    China claims Philippine warships damaged reef at atoll in South China Sea

    China said on Monday "illegal" beaching of Philippine warships at the Nansha islands in the South China Sea had "gravely damaged" the coral reef ecosystem in the area, as both countries tussle over disputed territory at atolls in the vast waterway. China's Ministry of Natural Resources, in a comprehensive report, said Philippine warships have been "illegally beached" around Second Thomas Shoal near Nansha Islands for a long time, "and it has seriously damaged the diversity, stability and sustainability of the reef ecosystem."

    West Africa's ECOWAS decries lack of progress with junta states

    The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) said it was disappointed with a lack of progress in reconciling with breakaway, junta-led Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger and will make "more vigorous" reconciliation efforts. ECOWAS commission president Oumar Touray said at the start of a summit in the Nigerian capital Abuja on Sunday the region risks disintegeration and worsening insecurity after the three Alliance of Sahel States (AES)signed a confederation treaty. That treaty underscored the juntas' determination to exit the near 50-year ECOWAS after also severing military and diplomatic ties with Western powers while seeking greater ties with Russia.
