Joel: Unfortunately, when it was decided Southampton would become a selling club, developing young talent and moving them on for generous fees, no-one had the foresight to recognise a point in time that the conveyor belt may slow up, with the talent pool running dry. The new directorate are following that same model and you only have to look at the past two seasons to recognise that the strategy has left us completely underprepared for the Premier League. The club needs a new culture and operating model that will retain talent and give the club a platform to build on.
Raymond: We have to give McKenna time to adjust to the heights of the Premier League. It's still a work in progress and, as most of the team were playing in League One two seasons ago, I am sure he can turn things around by the end of the season. Gavin: It ties in a bit with the fan's unity after the Manchester City game, but despite being in the relegation picture all season, we're one of the few teams that haven't been demanding the firing of our manager.
Gareth: We have so many players either out of contract this summer (Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ashley Young, Idrissa Gana Gueye) or leaving following a loan period (Jack Harrison, Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom). All the big-money flops are gone, the wage bill is right down, the books are much healthier for PSR and the personality of the squad is good - lots of grafters in there.
Tom: No-one is talking about Cucurella. From a figure of fun to an integral and dangerous part of our team - he is now crucial to how we play. Yusuf: I definitely think something people are not talking about is the impact Cucurella has had this season, tactically and psychically.
