The Gobbas were among the first families to return to Paradise after the 2018 Camp Fire killed 85 people and destroyed 90% of the homes here. “A lot of people don’t realize that when you rebuild in a burnt-out town, you’re not starting at ground zero,” said Gobba, who worked as a construction estimator and is now a fire prevention inspector for the town of Paradise.
Rishi Sunak has said he is not being investigated by the Gambling Commission as part of its probe into bets placed on the date of the election. The prime minister also said the Conservatives would conduct their own internal investigation into the allegations that have dogged the latter part of his campaign. Speaking to reporters in Edinburgh, Mr Sunak said his party "will act" if the Conservatives' own inquiry into the alleged betting scandal finds wrongdoing.
The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the American ambassador on Monday to protest what it says was the use of U.S.-made advanced missiles in a Ukrainian attack on Russian-annexed Crimea that reportedly killed four people and wounded more than 150. Washington “has effectively become a party” to the war on Ukraine’s side, the ministry said in a statement, adding, “Retaliatory measures will certainly follow.” The Associated Press could not independently verify Russia's claims about the missiles used.
