Player Notes
Matt Carpenter has been dealing with an issue to his right ring finger.

Advice: That explains his absence from Monday's lineup. It's apparently been a lingering issue, so the hope is that the rest will improve his symptoms. Not ideal with the Cardinals fighting to stay in the race. Greg Garcia will start at second base and bat leadoff Monday.

Matt Carpenter is not in Monday's lineup against the Reds.

Advice: The Cardinals are fighting to keep pace in the Wild Card race, but Carpenter will take a seat Monday. Aledmys Diaz is also out of the lineup for the second straight day. Greg Garcia will start at second base and bat leadoff while Jedd Gyorko will play shortstop and hit seventh. Tim Adleman will start for the Reds.

Matt Carpenter is back in the Cardinals' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon in Colorado.

Advice: Carpenter was given the night off Tuesday to nurse a couple different minor injuries, and because the Rockies were throwing left-hander Jorge De La Rosa. The lefty-swinging Carpenter is starting at first base and batting leadoff Wednesday versus Rockies right-hander German Marquez.

Matt Carpenter is out of the Cardinals' starting lineup Tuesday night in Colorado.

Advice: Matt Adams is at first base, Kolten Wong is at second base, and Jhonny Peralta is at third base versus the Rockies and left-hander Jorge De La Rosa. This looks to be a routine night off for Carpenter, who battled a back injury earlier this month.
