So much has changed since the Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays last met in early July. When the Cubs won the finale split a two-game set at Wrigley Field, it moved them to 42-42, while the Rays came out of the series with a 44-42 record. Chicago is 83-66, looking much more like the defending World Series champions, winners of six straight.

It was another stellar night at the plate for Hoskins, a 24-year-old first baseman. Batting with one out in the seventh inning after Odubel Herrera drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 2-2, Hoskins worked a 10-pitch at-bat against Dodgers reliever Pedro Baez (3-6) before shooting a 97 mph fastball through the gap in left-center.
