J.P. Crawford stepped forward to present a brave face after all that's gone wrong over the past month for a Seattle Mariners team that began the season with so much enthusiasm and optimism. "No one likes to lose, especially the way we are right now, especially games I think we should be winning,” Crawford said. The Mariners started the season with the hope of ending the longest playoff drought in the majors only to see those hopes dwindle during an awful 30-day stretch that has left them in last place in the American League West.
Less than two months into the season, the Seattle Mariners are quickly trending toward irrelevance in a season that started with expectations of ending the longest playoff drought in the major leagues. Seth Brown and Elvis Andrus both homered off reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray and the Oakland Athletics beat Seattle 4-2 on Wednesday, dropping the Mariners into last place in the AL West. Oakland took two of three in the series and leapfrogged the Mariners in the division standings.
